This is Mies' last American building and his largest, faced with dark aluminum and bronze-tinted glass. The original plan called for a U-shaped building, but the rectangular design was made practical when the city agreed to change the outline of Wabash Avenue on the lot's edge. It is sited to capture lake views; the entry plaza also has a gracious presence. The plaza is a great place to approach the "corncob towers" of Marina City, another Chicago landmark.
